In the UK, the majority of working scaffolds are erected<br \/>\nwith tube and fittings. The technical requirements regarding scaffolding are mainly<br \/>\nbased on European Standards (EN) that are transposed into national standards (e.g.<br \/>\nBS EN, DIN EN) by the member states. It should be considered that there are<br \/>\nnational annexes and national standards.<br \/>\nIn addition to the specifications laid down in the standards, occupational health and<br \/>\nsafety regulations must be complied with. These are mainly based on the EC framework<br \/>\ndirectives, regarding requirements for the use of work equipment such as<br \/>\n89\/391\/EEC, 2001\/45\/EC, 2009\/104\/EC. These are transposed into national law by<br \/>\nthe member countries.<br \/>\nIt should also be considered that there are\/may be additional and supplementary<br \/>\nprovisions in individual member countries.<br \/>\nThis guide is intended for working and protective scaffolds. It contains information<br \/>\nregarding planning and proper erection of scaffolds, taking into consideration regulations,<br \/>\nstandards, and work instructions that are suitable for the intended use.<\/p>\n<p class=\"uk-text-lead\">1.1 Scope<\/p>\n<p>This guide shall apply to the assembly, alteration, dismantling and use of working<br \/>\nand protective scaffolds. The guide provides information to be considered during risk<br \/>\nassessment.<br \/>\nThe guide shall not apply to falsework, horizontally movable platforms including mobile<br \/>\naccess towers, encapsulation construction and similar design types such as<br \/>\nsuspended or cantilevered scaffolds.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Order printversion<\/h2>\n<div>\n<p>The guide was designed and developed in the working group \u201cEuropean Regulations\u201d.
